Gas prices continue to decline
If you have noticed that every time you pull into a gas station to fill up that the price of gas is lower, you're right. In fact, gas prices have fallen every day since June 21, according to AAA Auto Club South.
Drivers filling up today are saving, on average, $1.63 a gallon, compared to last year at this time, with the average price of a gallon of regular at about $2.46 nationally and $2.50 in Florida.
In Fort Lauderdale, the average price is $2.51, it's $2.56 in Miami and $2.58 in West Palm Beach.
The U.S. Dept. of Energy provides little reason to expect gas prices to do anything but continue to fall. One reason is demand, or a lack of it. Despite the fact that we are nearing the peak of the summer driving season consumer demand has risen just 0.6 percent the past four weeks.
“The major stock indexes rallied to a 7 percent increase for the week just ending and there was a modest lift for crude oil too, but many analysts are doubtful that investors are willing to speculate now that either the economy or the U.S. Dollar will push the price of crude oil higher,” said Gregg Laskoski, managing director of public relations, AAA Auto Club South in a news release. “That’s likely to leave retail gasoline prices declining incrementally but steadily, as we’ve seen for the past month.” On the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) crude oil closed Friday at $63.56 per barrel. link.....
